Status: OPEN This group is for aspiring screenwriters with works-in-progress as well as those who might be interested in learning the craft. Members meet the second Thursday of each month, 12-2 PM, at the Sky Cinema Café (food court) to share methods, industry knowledge, and critiques. The group will be led by a Newcomer with film festival award competition experience. Novice screenwriters may get idea generation, scene outlining, and dialog writing assignments. STATUS: CLOSED Books run the gamut of classic mystery writers to the hybrid mystery-thrillers popular today. This group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 2 PM. For further information contact the Coordinator, Bernadette Snider (see Membership Directory).

Status: CLOSED This group will focus on historical fiction. Meetings will take place the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 2 PM. The first meeting will be at the Coordinator's home. Meetings going forward will be rotated among members so that everyone has a chance to host, if possible. At the first meeting members should bring two book recommendations for members to vote on books that the group will be interested in reading going forward. Once the Group is established, the Coordinator will be contacting the members with the location/time/details for the first meeting. Status: OPEN for 10 members This group will focus on contemporary issues, cultural realities, pioneering research, and experience lived. The group will meet on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 7 - 9 PM. For further information contact the Coordinator, Susan Barclay (see Membership Directory.

Status: OPEN The Group will "go to the movies" on the first Sunday of every month. Members will be notified by the Coordinator as soon as movie schedules are known. Everyone goes independently and at the same time. Optional discussion follows at a location determined after the movie. There is no set schedule. Status: OPEN The group meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 5:30 PM at the Hotel Santa Fe. This group will examine the discovery of the atom, radiation, U-235, U-238 and plutonium and more with asides into relativity, quantum mechanics, AI, VR and quantum computing. We will read, have guest speakers, and tour sites. Some possible field trips are Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia Labs, the Bradbury Museum and the Trinity site. Status: OPEN If you are a visual artist and would like to share ideas and experiences and see each other's work, you are in the right place! This is a potluck-style gathering with new and seasoned visual artists enjoying snacks. This group will meet once a month at one of the member's homes or at a Gallery or museum chosen by one of the members. Status: OPEN Looking for more members - published and non-published writers are welcome. This group is for members who write and/or want to and share their work in a confidential and safe environment. The sessions take place on the 1st Wednesday of each month from 10 - 12 PM. The location of each month's meeting is sent to members who have listed "Writing" as an interest on their profile. Additionally, the location is posted on the Newcomers calendar. Status: OPEN This group is active only during the ski season. Members meet on Mondays at 9 AM directly at the quad chair for the first lift and again at 10 AM for late starters. For further information contact the Coordinator, Steve Venturoni (see Membership Directory).

Status: OPEN Each second Tuesday morning of each month (except January & February) we hike and explore trails around Santa Fe. Hikes are senior-rated, Easy, Moderate or Difficult. Hikes will last 2-3 hours. The meeting location and start time varies each month. Check the Newcomers' calendar for current information. Registration is usually Not Required, check the calendar each month. NOTE: Due to liability concerns we have a "no dog" policy (sorry). Status: OPEN On the 4th Wednesday of each month (except holidays) this group meets at 10 AM. Walks range from easy, level, city walks to somewhat more hilly and rocky with sand/gravel terrain. They are about 2 miles long and 1 to 1.5 hours in time and are less strenuous than the hikes. Optional lunch often follows the walk. Members of the group volunteer to lead along the trails and paths available around Santa Fe. Walk details are sent to all members by email one week in advance indicating the meeting place, walk level and other important details. Status: OPEN For casual golfers (men and women) who want to stay close to Santa Fe. Weather permitting, this Group starts early April through the end of October. Green fees are quite reasonable at this 18-hole municipal course. There is a par 3 executive 9-hole course adjacent to the 18-hole course where beginners can improve their skills. No tee times are necesssary for the par 3. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU MUST REGISTER. Status: OPEN For players (men and women) who want to try different courses. We play at various courses within a one hour drive from Santa Fe including Cochiti, Santa Ana, Towa, Los Alamos, BlackMesa, UNM. Weather permitting, this group starts early April until early November. The courses are, of moderate difficulty, but you don't have to be an expert to enjoy these courses. Courses normally range in price from $40-$65 for Seniors for 18 holes with a cart. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU MUST REGISTER. The Newcomers’ Riding Club is dedicated to bringing together motorcycle enthusiasts for recreational riding, meetups, and community. As weather permits, we will meet up monthly for a recreational ride and a cafe/coffee stop . Additionally, we will meet up two weeks before or after the ride at a coffee shop or brewpub for a short meeting to plan our next adventures and hear a presentation of interest to riders. Afterwards, members are encouraged to enjoy camaraderie with other lovers of two wheels. Potential riders or former riders considering a return to motorcycling are encouraged to join our group and explore your interest at our non-riding meetups. With support, we can heed the call of the open road for many more years to come.

Status: OPEN Have fun with fellow Mah Jongg players, using the rules for American style Mah Jongg of the National Mah Jongg League, Inc. Beginners are welcome as well as more experienced players. The only requirement is a current year's Mah Jongg card from the National Mah Jongg League. Members meet the first and third Wednesday at 1:30 PM at a location that varies with the number of players, sometimes DeVargas Mall and sometimes at a member's home. Status: OPEN On the 2nd Friday of each month, Gourmet I meets for small dinner parties or happy hour/gourmet hors d'oeuvres in small groups hosted in a private home. Get-togethers are groups of 6 - 10 per host who volunteers to open their home to guests. The Coordinator selects the theme for the eveining - drinks, gourmet snacks/hors d'oeuvres and/or dinner. Everyone contributes food and/or drinks to share with their assigned group. The goal is to make every attempt to rotate hosts and provide a fun environment for members to meet, have lively conversation, fun and meet new people! Everyone is invited! Status: OPEN These predetermined gourmet groups of 6-8 people who dine together once a month emerged years ago when Newcomers first began and as friendships and relatlionships developed. Anyone can start a new group in this category, if you have 6-8 people ready to go.

Status: OPEN This group is exclusively for the women members. This group goes on short overnight trips, longer trips in the USA and places abroad - wherever the group decides!
