Newcomers Club Shakespeare fans created this Group wherein the coordinator notifies members of Shakespeare performances far and wide (in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, or perhaps streaming from England). Future activities may include play-reading sessions, and discussions of the sonnets. Group members attend performances independently. On a rotating basis, every month a new play is selected, ordered, and delivered, and roles are assigned. After the readings, everyone participates in what is usually a very lively discussion. Visual Arts Interest Group. This group is CLOSED to new members at this time. For visual artists to share ideas and experienes and to see each other's work. This is a potluck-style gathering with new and seasoned visual artists sharing their art and experiences while enjoying appetizers and desserts. The Writers’ Group is for members who write and/or want to write and share their work in a confidential and safe environment. The sessions take place on the 1st Wednesday of the month at the Southside Branch Library from 10 to 12:00. This group is currently seeking more members. This group is active only during the ski season. This year the group meets on Mondays at 9 AM directly at the quad chair for first lift and again at 10 AM for late starters. For further information contact the Coordinator, Steve Venturoni (Membership Directory).

Each second Tuesday morning of the month (except January & February) we hike and explore trails in the beautiful Santa Fe area. Our hikes are typically rated as Moderate or Easy-Moderate by the well-known local hiking guides. Hikes will last 2-3 hours with a target return to Santa Fe by 1 PM. We meet at the trailhead appropriate for the specific hike. Trailhead meeting time is 9:00 AM in the SUMMER to avoid mid-day heat. NOTE: if you wish to hike with the group, you must register with the hiking coordinator. Reservations are required to hike. Note: Due to liability concerns we have a "no dog" policy (sorry). On the fourth Wednesday of each month, (except holidays) the Walking Group meets at 10:00 AM. Walks range from easy, level, city walks to somewhat more hilly, rocky with sandy/gravel terrain. They are about 2 miles long and 1-1 1/2 hours in time and are less strenuous than the hikes. Optional lunch often follows the walk. Members of the group volunteer to lead along the many wonderful trails and paths available in the Santa Fe area. For casual golfers, men and women who want to stay close to Santa Fe. Greens fees are quite reasonable at this 18 hole municipal course. There is a par 3 executive 9 hole course adjacent to the 18 hole course where beginners can improve their skills. No tee times are necessary for the par 3. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU MUST REGISTER. This group is OPEN to new members. For players (men and women) who want to try different courses. We play at various courses within a one hour drive from Santa Fe including Cochiti, Santa Ana, Towa, Los Alamos, BlackMesa, UNM. Weather permitting, this group starts early April until early November. The courses are, of moderate difficulty, but you don't have to be an expert to enjoy these courses. Courses normally range in price from $40-$65 for Seniors for 18 holes with a cart. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU MUST REGISTER. This group is OPEN to new members. Have fun with fellow Mah Jongg players, using the rules for American style Mah Jongg of the National Mah Jongg League, Inc. Beginners are welcome as well as more experienced players. The only requirement is a current year's Mah Jongg card from the National Mah Jongg League. Members meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday at 1:30 PM at a member's home. Games generally end between3:30 - 4:30 PM. Those who have a Mah Jongg set are encouraged to bring it. This group is OPEN to new members. On the 2nd Friday of each month, Gourmet I meets for small dinner parties or happy hour/gourmet hors d'oeuvres in small groups hosted in a private home. Get-togethers are groups of 6 - 10 per host who volunteers to open their home to guests. The Coordinator selects the theme for the eveining - drinks, gourmet snacks/hors d'oeuvres and/or dinner. Everyone contributes food and/or drinks to share with their assigned group. The goal is to make every attempt to rotate hosts and provide a fun environment for members to meet, have lively conversation, fun and meet new people! Everyone is invited! These predetermined gourmet groups of 6-8 people who dine together once a month emerged years ago when Newcomers first began and as friendships and relationships developed.
